Anggyta Setyorini is an Indonesian artist born in 1981. Inspired by her native island, the artist explores through her painting the reminiscence of Indonesian nature, between its mangroves and its unique light.
In 2018, she is working for an Indonesian nature preservation NGO, enriching her knowledge of natural spaces, mangroves, forests and Indonesian biodiversity in general. Her work is a struggle for natural preservation damaged by human exploitation. She studies plant respiration and movement, and sees mangroves as a reflection. Indeed, mangroves are very important to human life. A forest in the sea, a tropical ecosystem, an interface between land and water, a carbon sink, they play an essential role in the resilience of ecosystems in the face of climate change and in the stabilization of coastal zones. Yet they are also facing major deforestation, which the artist witnessed on her native island of Sumatra, and which she denounces through her work.
Her Mangroves series is part of the collections of the Commonwealth Bank in Jakarta (Indonesia). The artist was also selected for the World Dubai Art Fair in 2022 and has been exhibiting in Aix-en-Provence since 2023.
