Galerie Ars Longa is delighted to welcome the exhibition “Yes, it’s just a pen”, featuring the most promising artists on the contemporary drawing scene: Magalie Darsouze, Stéphane Dupuis and Jean-Philippe Roubaud.
Drawing is always a place of experimentation, whether in terms of motifs, mediums or techniques, making contemporary drawing difficult to define. However, we can identify it as the place where we recognize the hand, the one that creates and stains, the one that draws the line or erases it. Its diversity is undeniably linked to modernity, to its objects and its abundance of images, it is the place of all contemporary curiosities and occupies a primordial place in the landscape of contemporary art, notably through its interdisciplinarity obviously linked to the plastic arts but also to the textile arts, science, fashion or architecture. It’s the ideal place for detour and freedom, as it lends itself to a wide range of media while remaining accessible – all you need is graphite and paper, a felt-tip pen and a wall. All the academic limits of the past are now pushed aside, contemporary drawing is full of independence, borderless and liberating. Drawing is a step aside, an emotion that goes beyond simple representation, a way of revisiting the world around us. In the age of the fast image, zapped and liked, drawing becomes a sensitive place, part of the long process of creation and inspiration.
