Galerie Ars Longa is honored to welcome Georges Autard‘s Paradise Now exhibition from January 30, a moment to celebrate his collaboration with the gallery over the past four years, as well as his long artistic career, an opportunity for him to take review of these years of freedom and present his latest creations.

Artist, mathematician, teacher, “chevalier de l’ordre des arts et des lettres”, shiatsu professional, Georges Autard is above all a lover of research, be it plastic, linguistic or metaphysical. If this year marks the fiftieth anniversary of his career, it’s not for nothing. His work lies somewhere between innovation and repetition, reusing with fabulous obsession what nourishes it, as if a “clear, luminous and reassured” catharsis were taking place before our very eyes. The object, the sign, the mantra: these are his passions, inspired by his own life of spiritual revolutions and insatiable creative appetite. His works are numerous, each more intense than the last, and have crossed Europe, the Atlantic and the Orient. In the end, the artist developed a universal and, above all, human language, full of clear or more erudite references, giving free rein to our interpretation.

The exhibition takes its name from one of Georges Autard’s famous statements, itself taken from a play created by the Living Theatre at the 1968 Avignon Festival. ‘Paradise, now’ said the actors, expressing the rebellious spirit of the time that nourished the painter. This creation caused a scandal and sought Utopia by transgressing the stage/theatre boundary, in this desire to place the actor and spectator at the heart of a collective work. The same project runs through his work, which, inspired by these avant-garde thinkers, wishes above all to create an impulse, that of a world freed from its suffering, because better and freer.
