Marie Roux skilfully captures light and transforms it. From their encounter, an imprint is born. The patches of light extend, reflect and transform themselves through each of her works. In her paintings, light becomes memory.

For the artist, blending academic knowledge with contemporary subjects is a means of immortalising the movements of life, from its surprises to its most inspiring banality. Through her sensitivity, Marie Roux’s work stands apart from conceptual artists and hyperrealism. Between intimacy and chromatic tensions, her technique fits perfectly into the panorama of contemporary figurative art. Her light passes through forms, skims surfaces, diffuses or fragments. It evokes fleeting sensations, impressions already experienced, emotions of which sometimes only a trace remains. What is presented is not merely an image, but an experience: that of a memory in the process of forming or fading.

The familiar is magnified, revealing itself in a more sensitive and striking way than ever before. The blocks of colour, creating subjects that seem almost in motion, blossom freely beneath his brushes. From them emerge smiles or pouts, laughing or shy glances, bouquets whose comforting scents one feels one can smell, seats on which one would like to rest for a few moments.

Sharing a fascination with light and atmosphere akin to the art of Pierre Bonnard or Claude Monet, Marie Roux presents us with sensations. Her true strength lies in the simplification of visual form, leaving interpretation to the viewer. Between appearance and disappearance, the works invite a sensitive, almost intimate perception. The eye does not grasp everything immediately; it lingers, returns, reconstructs. Like an echo, the light repeats itself without ever being identical, creating a dialogue between presence and absence. Highly graphic motifs blossom. The brushstroke is liberated. Formats abound. A veritable visual universe is (re) created within the space.
In this age of artificial intelligence, this exhibition celebrates the plasticity of the material.

The depth of the brushstroke and the energy of the creative gesture reveal themselves in all their uniqueness.
