Donatien Tapa

Bon in 1997, Donatien Tapa is a Cameroonian artist who trained at the Institute of Fine Arts in Nkongsamba (Cameroon) and graduated from the Ecole Supérieure in Aix-en- Provence. He has participated in several international residencies and group exhibitions, including the Douala Art Fair (Cameroon) and the Vostell Museum (Spain). His artistic creations blend contemporary and traditional elements, Western and African cultures. The result of these alliances takes shape in portraits filled with bold vitality.

His visual art oscillates between painting, sculpture, and digital creation, all of which allow the artist to express, in his own way, the theme of metamorphosis. This subject, a true favorite of the artist, is linked to themes of identity and culture. Donatien Tapa’s painting invites us to share his life experiences and those of his loved ones. From his mind springs a multitude of motifs, transcribed by his brush with great texture. His work, both personal and universal, explores the impact of modernity and the phenomena of neocolonial cultural assimilation.
