In her painting practice, Clémence Bruno draws inspiration from traditional techniques and unfolds a universe somewhere between fiction and reality, with the aim of sacralizing collective moments. The artist works at Ateliers Lautard in Marseille’s Belle de Mai district. Through an anachronistic process, she uses Renaissance paintings as the basis for transposing new, more contemporary narratives. Painting those closest to her is a way for her to honor a discourse that they materialize together. This takes shape by entering the realm of the sacred, reinterpreting religious scenes to transpose more contemporary concerns. By revealing moments of intimacy, she seeks to highlight new ways of being together, outside the institutional framework of the family or conjugality. Clémence Bruno has exhibited in galleries in Paris and Marseille, and was selected for the Réseau peinture, hors peindre residency in Mürow, Germany, as well as at Fontevraud Abbey, where she created her work L’annonciation, confirming her interest in liturgical subjects.
