The instant of a moment, of a feeling, always leaves traces in our memories. It recreates them, sometimes distorting them, creating a new vision somewhere between dream and reality. The artists themselves draw on their own memories and dreams to inscribe buried, sometimes unconscious, feelings on their canvases. In this way, the works of art become a unique and universal repository of memory.

What is memory? In the arts, it’s linked to the artist’s experience and history – his own, that of his family and friends – which he transcribes in his own way, using a variety of media, from painting to installation. Here, personal memory develops within the canvases of the artists chosen by the Galerie Ars Longa. Whether abstract or figurative, the works are witnesses to the shapes, colors and light of an instant, immortalized in a unique way. They are phantasmatic visions, inviting the viewer to stop for a moment, contemplate, laugh or empathize, and finally commune with the work.
