Claire Gitton

Claire Gitton graduated from the Beaux-Arts de Paris, earning a DNSAP diploma with honors. Her work lies somewhere between individual and collective memory, which she transmits using a vaporous technique with an impressionist feel. The artist uses airbrush and oil in overlapping layers of glaze; each layer has its own color, and each color has its own meaning. Just as we don’t immediately see the gesture, the subject does not appear distinctly on the canvas. This way of not touching the canvas directly is important. The work brings its own suspense; we can make out the movements of water, more than a ripple, or the reflections of the sun between the leaves of trees.

Since 2021, Claire Gitton has been exhibiting her work between Belgium and France. In 2023, she was chosen for the 55th edition of the Prix Novembre in Vitry, and in 2024 by Villa Noailles for the exhibition Under 25/The Drawer. Curated by Inès Geoffroy, the artist has also been chosen to take part in the 2025 edition of 100% La Villette, an annual exhibition bringing together some fifty artists from the young French art scene. Galerie Ars Longa is exhibiting her work from February 26 to March 29, 2025 as part of the exhibition Abstractions, bringing together three artists from the contemporary abstract art scene.
