Born in 1990, Céline Turlotte graduated from the École Supérieure d’Arts Dunkerque/Tourcoing in 2015. Her work explores intimacy, that of the body and the home, between eroticism and modesty, the artist questions above all the self-image.
The artist uses phosphorescence, blur and contour as a way of distancing the rawness of her subjects. As a woman, it’s not uncommon to define oneself solely as a body, especially in paintings made by men. Céline Turlotte, on the other hand, makes us see in order to establish a clear distance from reality. This assumption of power in the image can seem destabilizing if you don’t know how to look beyond what’s shown. She wants to make the body a non-subject, and leave room for other concerns, both pictorial and societal.
Since 2016, she has been exhibiting her work in galleries and salons in France and Belgium, including the Salon of Erotic Drawing, SALO, which has welcomed her for the past two years. In 2022, she was selected for the ArtPress Biennale of young artists at the MO.CO Panacée in Montpellier. The exhibition brought together 32 artists who had graduated from French public art schools and had already embarked on an artistic career, selected by a jury chaired by Spanish film director and artist Albert Serra. This year, she exhibit in Compiègne until July 12th.
