The Ars Longa Conversations
Philosophy and Aesthetics Series
Lecture #2 Saturday 19 September, 11.00–12.00, by Louise Valentin, Philosopher: Aesthetic Value and Market Value of the Artwork

Le Pouvoir des Images – “The Power of Images” fosters a dialogue between several generations of artists, from Narrative Figuration and Free Figuration to contemporary creation, whilst also making room for abstraction. The exhibition will explore the power of the image and its ability to narrate, bear witness, question or transform our perception of the world. From narrative to abstract imagery, from the representation of reality to the expression of a sensation, the works on display bear witness to the diversity of artistic languages and their evolution.

Through this dialogue between eras, sensibilities and artistic practices, *The Power of Images* will invite visitors to look at their surroundings in a new light and to reflect on what images reveal about our times, our imagination and ourselves.

For the start of the 2026 season, the team at the Galerie Ars Longa will welcome you to the Hôtel de Gassier in Aix-en-Provence by appointment. Marina Fauvey, founder and curator of the exhibition, will pay tribute to Jean-Louis Maubant, former Director of the Institut d’Art Contemporain de Villeurbanne, who instilled in her a passion for contemporary art whilst she was studying for her Professional Master’s in Art History in Lyon. Unseen works by artists from the Figuration Narrative and Figuration Libre movements will be on display during the exhibition, with our sincerest thanks to the Galerie Strouk in Paris for their loans and collaboration. Jean-Louis Maubant was one of the pioneers in promoting contemporary art in the Rhône-Alpes region and throughout France. He is regarded as one of the leading figures in the decentralisation of French culture within the visual arts.
