For this solo show, Coline Casse brings the pleasure of color and gesture back to the fore, while maintaining a dramatic tension through strong lines, sometimes softened, sometimes violent, generally fracturing the space where an isolated character stands. A solitary, intimate, secret quest for sensations, far from words, a rediscovery of everyday life flirting with its apparent banality, where nothing is trivial. On the contrary, it’s in the bend of a staircase so familiar that all of a sudden, by a square of light, by a noise in the clear ear, the inner world topples over and reveals itself. The viewer, too, can get his or her feet caught in the velvet of a carpet and fall nose-to-nose with himself or herself. A sort of waking dream, with the artist’s ever-present shadow zones, highlighted by strong chromatic contrasts, between presence and absence. Air, too, is important here, contained in a ray of light, a window or even a cloud, everyone is on the departure or arrival of something new, at once foreboding and vast, the unknown, harboring the promise of a beautiful escape.
